Best panini in town near Castello Sforzesco

The kiosk

Chiosco Mauro

Locals call it simply Mauro, after the name of the owner of this little but very famous sandwich kiosk in Milan, which has witnessed 80 years of Italian history: Mauro’s father set up the business in the 30s and since then it has become an institution in the Milan’s street food scene.

Here you’ll find a wide selection of tasty panini named after the world’s best football teams and players. But you don’t need to be a football fan to become an enthusiast of this unique kiosk offering a cheap and quick lunch and a nice view on the Castello Sforzesco. They have tables for customers so you can sit and enjoy your panino while gazing at the castello fountain or, if you love picnics, you can also grab a sandwich with you and enjoy it on the lawns of the nearby Parco Sempione.

According to Tripadvisor (calling it “Chiosco squadre calcio” – Football teams kiosk – as the kiosk has no name sign), Mauro is one of the best restaurants in Milan: it’s here you can find the best panini sandwiches in town. A quick Lost-in-Translation note: in Italian “panini” is plural; in case you want to order only one you should say “panino”. After you taste Mauro’s, you won’t have only one panino though!

Buon appetito!
