Representing the milestone for Opera and Ballet in the world during the past 200 years, the theatre La Scala was inaugurated in 1778, under the auspices of Empress Maria Theresa, ruler of the House of Habsburg, and was designed by architect Giuseppe Piermarini. The opera house soon became the reference point for the high society, hosting the “prima” of the most famous operas.

Carpe diem and be sure to step into the mangnificent theater house with its marble, gold, and red velvet and attend an Opera, a Ballet a Symphony Concert or Recital: the choice is wide and the experience unforgettable.

The related museum boasts one of the most important collections of antique musical instruments, costumes, books and paintings related to Opera. The auditorium can be seen from the boxes except when rehearsals or performances are in progress. Worth a visit.
